If the most paranoid bitcoiner on the planet tells you to move your funds, at the braai or not, you listen. Jameson Lopp — one of Bitcoin’s most respected security voices — just flagged a Coldcard hardware wallet exploit and urged users to move Bitcoin off affected devices immediately.
Hardware wallets are NOT bulletproof
Coldcard is a respected maker. Their wallet was targeted by a sophisticated exploit. The lesson for SA users: a hardware wallet does not make you invincible. You still need to:
- Update firmware regularly (check the manufacturer’s site, not a random link)
- Never type your seed phrase into anything connected to the internet
- Keep your 12 or 24 words on paper or stamped in steel — offline only
- If a security alert drops, move funds first, ask questions later
